It is the ninth Yartzeit (anniversary of the= passing) of Rav Noach Weinberg of blessed memory. Many of his students an= d friends will spend this Shabbos reflecting on his teachings. At Aish=2C= we are about to embark on a very special program in his memory. Starting Monday for four days we will be hosting a Yarchai Kalla learning= program in our Yeshiva. Jews from around the world will join our students= in Torah study dedicated to remembering the ideals that Rav Noach stood f= or. I was in Los Angeles this week and met with many friends of Aish HaTorah.= At one of the local restaurants=2C I bumped into a very successful commun= al leader. I had worked with him on many projects in the past. He asked me= how things were going at Aish and I filled him in on the incredible work= we are doing. He told me that Rav Noach had been largely responsible for his lifelong mi= ssion to help the Jewish people. I was astounded because I never knew of a= ny connection between this person and Aish. He proceeded to tell me his st= ory. When he was a young man he was an observant Jew but not very passionate ab= out his Judaism. On one of his trips to Israel=2C someone suggested that t= hey stop in to meet Rav Noach Weinberg. He said he was immediately taken b= y his warmth. What really struck him was the following question. Rav Noach ask ed them what they would be willing to die for. He was stumpe= d as no one had ever asked him such a question before. That question was f= ollowed by a statement that changed his life. Rav Noach said=2C =E2=80=9CI= f you don=E2=80=99t know what your willing to die for=2C how can you know= what you are willing to live for=E2=80=9D. This young man made a fateful decision that from that day forward he would= live to serve the Almighty. Since then he has gone on to accomplish great= things on behalf of his Jewish brothers and sisters. Being a Jew cannot be a passive action. We must be driven to work hard tow= ards strengthening the Jewish people. That was the legacy of Rav Noach. We= must all spend this Shabbos focused on what we are willing to live for. H= ow we are going to serve the Almighty. How we are going to help our fellow= Jews. How we can become the leaders that the world needs us to be. This i= s the legacy of Rav Noach and Aish HaTorah. On the Friday of= the conference=2C delegates had a chance to present an exciting Jewish id= ea as a part of an Innovation Incubator. Olami judges=2C as well as a capt= ive audience=2C all sat to listen as Keren Mahgerefteh a MyAish LA delegat= e presented about the idea of Jewish Meditation. This idea was envisioned= by community leaders in the Los Angeles area. Jewish Meditation entails c= reating a curriculum where it will allow Jews to reconnect to the Jewish p= eople to an experience of G-d and the performance of mitzvot with kavanah= (concentration). The idea is to move people up the Jewish spiritual ladder by giving them t= he tools to master the basic techniques and skills of meditation and will= explore ideas of prayer=2C blessings=2C mitzvahs and Divine Names. While= there were many great contenders=2C Jewish Meditation was chosen as one t= he winners for this year's Olami Innovation Award. The award consists of a= $10=2C000 grant to grow the idea and another $25=2C000 grant opportunity= if all terms and conditions are met. Additionally=2C Keren will be attend= ing leadership training courses. We are proud to be a part of this opportu= nity and are looking forward to bringing Jewish Meditation to Los Angeles. Aish Chile Outreach Training Seminar This past week=2C Aish Jerusalem ran an Outreach Training Seminar for 8 St= udents from Aish Chile that are spending their summer learning at the Aish= Yeshiva. A Polish policeman= and friend of Nira=E2=80=99s great-grandfather=2C Czyzk entered the ghett= o to rescue his friend=E2=80=99s daughter and child and hid them first in= his potato shed and later in his chicken shed for two years until the end= of the war. Although both Nira=E2=80=99s grandmother and her rescuer passed away just= weeks after the war=E2=80=99s end=2C Nira=E2=80=99s mother=2C who came to= Israel as an orphan=2C made it her life=E2=80=99s mission to find the fam= ily and give recognition to the man who=2C =E2=80=9Cin the face of evil=2C= chose to make the right decision and save two Jews=2C two human beings=E2= =80=9D. I had worked with him on many projects in the past. He asked me= how things were going at Aish and I filled him in on the incredible work= we are doing. 

He told me that Rav Noach had been largely= responsible for his lifelong mission to help the Jewish people. I was ast= ounded because I never knew of any connection between this person and Aish= =2E He proceeded to tell me his story. 

When he was a young man he was an observant Jew but not very passionate ab= out his Judaism. On one of his trips to Israel=2C someone suggested that t= hey stop in to meet Rav Noach Weinberg. He said he was immediately taken b= y his warmth. What really struck him was the following question. 

Rav Noach asked them what they would be wi= lling to die for. He was stumped as no one had ever asked him such a quest= ion before. That question was followed by a statement that changed his lif= e. Rav Noach said=2C =E2=80=9CIf you don=E2=80=99t know what your willing= to die for=2C how can you know what you are willing to live for=E2=80=9D.=  

This young man made a fateful decision that from that day forward he would= live to serve the Almighty. Since then he has gone on to accomplish great= things on behalf of his Jewish brothers and sisters. 

Being a Jew cannot be a passive act= ion. We must be driven to work hard towards strengthening the Jewish peopl= e. That was the legacy of Rav Noach. We must all spend this Shabbos focuse= d on what we are willing to live for. How we are going to serve the Almigh= ty. How we are going to help our fellow Jews. How we can become the leader= s that the world needs us to be. This is the legacy of Rav Noach and Aish= HaTorah.

Jewish organizations from 18 different countries with= many students and young professional delegates all joined together in Bir= mingham=2C England during the last week of December for the Olami Conferen= ce. On the Friday of the conference=2C delegates had a chance to present a= n exciting Jewish idea as a part of an Innovation Incubator. Olami judges= =2C as well as a captive audience=2C all sat to listen as Keren= Mahgerefteh a MyAish LA delegate presented about the idea of Jewish Medit= ation. This idea was envisioned by community leaders in the Los Angeles ar= ea. Jewish Meditation entails creating a curriculum where it will allow Je= ws to reconnect to the Jewish people to an experience of G-d and the perfo= rmance of mitzvot with kavanah (concentration).

The idea is to move people up the Jewish spiritual ladder by giving them t= he tools to master the basic techniques and skills of meditation and will= explore ideas of prayer=2C blessings=2C mitzvahs and Divine Names. W= hile there were many great contenders=2C Jewish Meditation was chosen as o= ne the winners for this year's Olami Innovation Award. The award consists= of a $10=2C000 grant to grow the idea and another $25=2C000 grant opportu= nity if all terms and conditions are met. Additionally=2C Keren will be at= tending leadership training courses. We are proud to be a part of this opp= ortunity and are looking forward to bringing Jewish Meditation to Los Ange= les.

This past= week=2C Aish Jerusalem ran an Outreach Training Seminar for 8 Students fr= om Aish Chile that are spending their summer learning at the Aish Yeshiva.= The Seminar included topics like Jewish Philosophy and Key Issues=2C Lear= ning to Teach Chumash=2C How to Teach Halacha to Beginners=2C How to Build= Discussion Groups=2C How to Teach Spirituality and more.

After 20 hours of training=2C condensed in one week=2C the students are leaving with a= lot of knowledge and techniques on how to do Outreach but most important= =2C with the desire to make a real impact on their community. Special than= ks to Rabbi Jamie Cowland=2C Director of Outreach at Aish Jerusalem=2C and= his staff for creating and running the program.

Aish Detro= it's new Q Trivia champions have been crowned! Thank you to everyone= who joined Aish Detroit last Saturday night at their second annual Q= 2 Benefit Event to support Aish Detroit and their impact on the Detroit Je= wish community. The Q2 Benefit Event was held in Downtown Detroi= t at the College for Creative Studies. A packed house of 350 people attend= ed for an amazing and action-packed night. Aish Detroit honored members&nb= sp;Ari and Aviva Gelberman who went on 5 trips to Israel with us and host= every Shabbos. The night consisted of a strolling dinner and silent aucti= on followed by a trivia game and dessert. Nira Berry=2C Happiness Coach=2C Laughter Therapist and TV host fro= m Bethesda=2C MD visited Aish HaTorah in Jerusalem this week with the desc= endants of Grzegorz Czyzk who was posthumously honored as =E2=80=9CRighteo= us Among the Nations.=E2=80=9D It was Czyzk who saved Nira=E2=80=99s= mother and grandmother from certain death at the hand of the Nazis. A Pol= ish policeman and friend of Nira=E2=80=99s great-grandfather=2C = Czyzk entered the ghetto to rescue his friend=E2=80=99s daughter and= child and hid them first in his potato shed and later in his chicken shed= for two years until the end of the war.

Although both Nira=E2=80=99s grandmoth= er and her rescuer passed away just weeks after the war=E2=80=99s end=2C&n= bsp;Nira=E2=80=99s mother=2C who came to Israel as an orphan=2C made it he= r life=E2=80=99s mission to find the family and give recognition to the ma= n who=2C =E2=80=9Cin the face of evil=2C chose to make the right decision= and save two Jews=2C two human beings=E2=80=9D.

Feeling eternally grateful to the Czyzyk family=2C Nira arranged= a journey to Jerusalem this week=2C bringing his descendants together wit= h her extended family =E2=80=9Cto allow them to see his name on the Wall o= f the Righteous=2C overlooking the hills of Jerusalem.  I wanted Grze= gorz=E2=80=99s family to see how the righteous acts of their grandfather a= llowed generations of my family to come back to our homeland. During my mo= ther=E2=80=99s lifetime=2C there was no access to the Kotel=2C so to = be at Aish HaTorah=2C opposite the Kotel=2C is one of the most beauti= ful feelings in the world.=E2=80=9D said Nira. =E2=80=9CAish HaT= orah=2C which epitomizes the vibrant continuity of the Jewish people=2C wa= s the ideal venue to host this righteous hero=E2=80=99s descendants to who= m my family owes our lives."

Nira created Laughing RX=2C a Bethesda= -based company that uses laughter for healing and leads interactive laught= er programs for small groups and corporations. A breast cancer survivor=2C=  Nira said=2C "I threw myself into a laughter=2C happiness spect= rum because I realized that's what life is all about.  Life is meant= to be lived and enjoyed=2C with faith and laughter." She continued=2C =E2= =80=9CKnowing what my mother and grandmother went through strengthened my= faith and helped me survive my battle with cancer.=E2=80=9D
